Grand Chief Raoni and the cacique Watatakalu were invited by the city of Paris to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 and 11 December 2023.

PART 1

The Mairie de Paris invited Grand Chief Raoni, the Watatakalu Yawalapiti cacique and the Yabuti and Paxton Metuktire caciques to the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The AFV took advantage of the occasion to organise, in partnership with the Alliance pour la Préservation des Forêts, a series of meetings with various media and political figures, including President Emmanuel Macron.

A KEY DISCUSSION WITH THE SECRETARY OF STATE, CHRYSOULA ZACHAROPOULOU

On Friday 8 December, the Watatakalu cacique had the opportunity to meet the Secretary of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, and the team from the Secretary of State for Biodiversity, Sarah El Hairy, to discuss potential partnerships between the communities of Xingu and France.

MEETING WITH CHEF THIERRY MARX

The culinary world was once again in attendance. Cacique Watatakalu had the opportunity to meet chef Thierry Marx at his restaurant ONOR. During their meeting, Watatakalu and Thierry Marx discussed ways in which chefs can inspire sustainable change by promoting environmentally-friendly food consumption.

The AFV would like to thank its partner, the Alliance pour la Préservation des Forêts. The Alliance for the Preservation of Forests is a group of companies committed to sustainable, traceable and environmentally-friendly raw materials. Our mission is to bring together in a single coalition all the players who make a living from the forest or whose activities have an impact on it, in order to support and invent management and cultivation methods that ensure its sustainable preservation. Convinced that everyone has a role to play in raising awareness and making progress, some forty companies have already joined this initiative, which brings together both large companies and smaller players driven by the same ambition to combat deforestation.
