20th Meeting of the Brazilian Public Security Forum – Instituto Aritana in São Paulo

Our partner Instituto Aritana took part in the 20th Meeting of the Brazilian Public Security Forum (Fórum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública), held from 15 to 18 September at the ACADEPOL police academy in São Paulo. Its participation came through the partnership with Brazil’s Ministry of Indigenous Peoples (Ministério dos Povos Indígenas, MPI).
Alongside the MPI, the meeting brought together the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB), the Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) and further public bodies and institutions working on socio-environmental projects and territorial policy — all united around a single objective: strengthening the protection of indigenous territories.
Discussions focused on strategies to reinforce the surveillance and protection of indigenous lands, combining traditional knowledge with technology in the service of security and environmental preservation. This is precisely the intersection at which the joint work of Rainforest Organization and Instituto Aritana in the Território Indígena do Xingu is situated.
The participation underlines Instituto Aritana’s commitment to the territorial rights of indigenous peoples and to more effective, participatory public policies for the protection of their lands.
